What are the course costs?

For CNA/LNA classes:

The total cost is $1,250 per candidate with textbooks and clinical supplies included. The course cost is broken down as follows:

• Enrollment/Registration = $300

• Tuition = $950

• Students should note that when registering for their state boards, a separate fee will be due to the state board proctoring company - D&S Diversified Technologies. The state board exam fee is typically $118. When retaking the exam, students only need to pay for the portion (skill or written) they are retaking.

• Only the enrollment fee is required to enroll. After paying the enrollment fee, students may then setup a payment plan for the remaining $950. There is no finance fee for payment plans. Please contact us to arrange a payment plan. Please note that we do not accept personal checks.

• To enroll, please start by completing our pre-enrollment form then come in with your ID anytime during open hours (M-TH, 9A-8P).


For Caregiver classes:

If you are NOT a CNA/LNA, the total cost is $499 per candidate and includes a food handlers card.

• Caregiver classes for non-CNAs consist of 50 Lecture hours and 12 Lab hours.

• If you are CNA/LNA, the total cost is $350 per candidate and includes a food handlers card.

• Caregiver classes for current CNAs consist of 16 Lecture hours only.

• In order to qualify, Arizona Nursing Assistants must have a certificate or license in good standing.

• Caregiver training for Nursing Assistants focuses on medication management and may be completed remotely.


For CPR classes:

The total cost is $30 per candidate and includes a pocket mask.

• Star Canyon CNA students may receive an additional gift or discount if they pass the exam on their first try.

• To enroll in CPR please complete the CPR enrollment form. Someone will then contact you with additional steps.


For First Aid classes:

The total cost is $30 per candidate.

• Star Canyon CNA students may receive an additional gift or discount if they pass the exam on their first try.

• To enroll in First Aid, please complete the 1st Aid enrollment form. Someone will then contact you with additional steps.


For HESI & Math Tutoring classes:

• If you are Star Canyon CNA/LNA student, your first class is free. For additional classes, the cost is $15 per hour.

• If you are NOT a Star Canyon CNA/LNA student, your first class is $30. For additional classes, the cost is $15 per hour.

Do you offer Financial Aid?

• We do not offer any federally funded financial assistance.

• We do work with several agencies that provide fincacial assistance to nursing assistant students. Please call/visit and ask us about sponsorship or job placement opportunities.

• We do offer a variety of payment plans that meet most students' needs. There is no finance fee for payment plans. Please contact us to arrange a payment plan. Please note that we do not accept personal checks.

• Many of our CNA/LNA students have been able to secure employment during the program and use that to offset tuition. Please visit our jobs page or speak with us about working during your studies.

• Upon graduation, students may continue to use our facilities to prepare for their State Board exam free of charge.

• Students who fail any one of their State Boards can continue to use our facilities to prepare for their next exam contingent on the seriousness of the student's effort to pass.

• Students experiencing financial hardship may also obtain assistance through an external agency. Some well-known resources are listed below:

Historically, students have received funding from sources such as their employer, credit unions, religious organizations, community programs, but mostly family/friends. Do you offer ONLINE or HYBRID courses?

No, our classes will normally be in-person with physical textbooks. Students are welcome to use online texts, however, at this level, we have found that most CNA/LNA students learn best with physical books and in-person lectures. We offer day and evening classes and work with students to accommodate busy schedules.


Do you offer RN or LPN courses?

We do not offer RN or LPN classes. We offer Nursing Assistant (CNA/LNA) classes, Caregiver classes, CPR classes, First Aid classes, HESI science tutoring and Math tutoring classes.


What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, debit/credit cards, cashier's checks, money orders, Paypal, CashApp, and Bitcoin. We do not accept personal checks.

• To use Paypal, please use the enrollment form appropriate for your course (CNA/LNA, CPR, 1st Aid, or Math Tutoring). Once you submit the form, a Paypal button will appear.

• To use CashApp, if you do not already have the App, first download it here, then use the cashtag $starcanyon to send.

• To pay with Bitcoin, simply use the Bitcoin wallet feature in CashApp by tapping the ₿ Bitcoin symbol, then send to cashtag $starcanyon.

• To use cash, debit/credit cards, cashier's checks, or money orders please come in during open hours (M-TH, 9A-8P).


How do I get to the school?

We are conveniently located along city bus routes on Central Avenue & Dunlap Road. Please see the map on this page and on the home page to view our location. Students have had success using the valley metro trip planner available here.


How do I get books?

Books are available to all students as loans for the duration of the program. Laboratory materials/tools or extra hours needed throughout the program are also available at no additional charge.

What if I fail the CNA/LNA course?

Students who fail the CNA/LNA course or State Board exam may continue to study at our facilities until they pass contingent on the seriousness of the student's effort to pass. Historically, our State Board exam pass rates have been well above average. We pride ourselves on having produced many successful graduates with language barriers or other learning challenges. What is the difference between a CNA and an LNA?

In Arizona, a Licensed Nursing Assistant is essentially a Nursing Assistant who has passed an additional background check upon successful completion of their nursing assistant training and upon passing their State Board exams. Additional information on nursing assistant types can be found on azbn.gov and azleg.gov in A.R.S. § 32-1645.


Do I need a drug test to enroll?

No. We require that you provide a recently passed drug test as soon as possible and no later than the first week of class.


Where should I go for the drug test?

You will need a 5-panel test and can go to any testing site that offers them. We recommend Any Lab Testing.


How do I obtain State licensure/certification?

During the CNA/LNA program, we will explain the steps and guide you through the process of registering for the State Board exam. We host Board exams around every month.


How do I apply for my CNA/LNA license after passing boards?

Students who have graduated and passed their State Board exam should visit the Arizona State Board of Nursing website at https://azbn.gov to apply for their state license/certificate. Additional information on nursing assistant types can be found on azbn.gov and azleg.gov in A.R.S. § 32-1645.The steps to follow during application are shown in the video below.


What else do I need to graduate?

You will need to obtain a passing score on all classroom exams, obtain CPR certification (we offer CPR at our facility and you can enroll here), obtain a recent TB (tuberculosis) test, and provide a signed a medical clearance form.


How do I obtain a TB test and Medical Clearance?

We recommend Wellness for Less clinic as they provide low cost physical/medical clearance assessments as well as TB tests. Students may go to Any Lab Testing for their TB test also.
